Select First: Selects the first subexpression of what is currently selected.
Select All: Selects the entire equation.
Select Out: Selects the enclosing expression outside of what is currently selected.
Select In: Selects every subexpression of what is currently selected.
Ruler Mode: When on (pressed in), rulers on strings are shown, and you can modify their tab stops.
Magnify Mode: When on (pressed in), equations are shown double their printing size. When off, they are shown the way they will print.
Guide Mode: When on (pressed in), all equations are shown with guide lines showing what encloses what so it's easier to understand.
Change: Allows you to view and change subtle settings affecting the appearance and properties of whatever you select. Try selecting different things and using it.
Clear: Deletes what is in the selection.
Paste: Inserts whatever is in the clipboard into the selection, replacing what was there originally.
Copy: Saves the contents of the selection in the clipboard.
Cut: Deletes the selection, saving it in the clipboard.
Undo: Reverses the last change you made to the equation.
Inserts a number into each selection in a matrix. To use, select the whole matrix, Select In, then choose this button.
Inserts a special Expressionist character that isn't available in any font.
Inserts a special symbol for ellipses (...). All four directions are possible.
Inserts a thin space, so you can add extra space carefully for fine-tuning.
Inserts the depicted matrix. Whatever is selected is inserted into the first element.
Inserts the depicted composite, enclosing the current selection(s). Letters like 'a' and 'b' refer to subexpressions in the composite; whatever is selected is inserted into the 'a' position.
Inserts the depicted macro, possibly enclosing the current selection(s).
Removes all font embellishments from the selection, leaving it the natural font for that expression.
Changes the font of the selection to that depicted in the button.
Inserts the depicted character.
Long Division composite. It has four blanks for expressions.
Tensor Template. You can raise and lower indices by selecting the whole thing and clicking on Change (the Yin-Yang) icon.
An Overstrike involving two expressions that are normally printed overlapping. You have Guide mode on, so they are displayed separated. Turn off Guide mode to see them as they will finally print.

Frame (a rectangular box that encloses its subexpression). You can change the border thickness by selecting the whole thing and clicking on Change (the Yin-Yang) icon.
A Tree Node. You can put more tree nodes into its children and form larger trees.
A superscript/subscript/summation composite. Add or remove appendages by using Change (the yin-yang button).
Integral. You can change its loop by selecting the whole thing and clicking on Change (the Yin-Yang) icon.
Root. In the upper left corner is a string where you can enter what root, if desired. Turn on Guide mode to see..
